Hello! Today is:

SEE WHAT'S NEW!

Straw Bale Garden - The work continues!

And there seems to be lots of progress to report - despite the interruptions of Life.

Life does happen.  The unexpected happens.  It can get messy and frustrating and oh so sad.  All that happened in the course of the time I was supposed to be conditioning the bales.  I made a trip to see my mom - that was a happy thing; my sweet daughter suffered a miscarriage and baby Noah was welcomed into heaven - the heartache of such loss can only be fully understood by someone who has shared the same experience.  Frustration - because there just doesn't seem to be enough time to get it all done, you know what I mean?

Anyway, I persevered with the conditioning.  I just added time and started where I left off.  I definitely started to doubt it was working because the temperature inside the bales wasn't changing at all.  I have had to use regular tap water from the hose because 35 bales just doesn't lend itself well to using "warm" water.  The weather has started warming up and the forecast looks terrific!  Planting day, yes, it's time.  But first, it's shopping time.  Love to shop for starter plants.  I know I need to develop a plan and begin starting my own seeds if I want to do this in a cost effective manner.  Next year.  But for now, I've enjoyed visiting my favorite nurseries.

Saturday morning found us shopping for the rest of the supplies we needed to espalier the fruit trees and the grape vines, another set of straw bales for ground cover between the rows of bales for planting, dirt, the remaining starter plants I had not found the days before and steaks.  Steaks, not stakes?  Yes, steaks.  John wanted some beef for later this week, but I digress...

Back home John started work on the pole digging project and I started moving some bales to better utilize the soaker hoses, spread the new straw (with some help from Rachel), setting the hoses in place and ON TO PLANTING!  Would the bales be ready or would they not?  That is the question.  Oh yes, they were ready and waiting to welcome and nurture some plants.  Happy day!

A promise of biscuits and gravy calls me to the kitchen.  A promise to make them for my family that is...

It's Sunday morning and we love our new church.  We look forward to worshiping together as a family and to the fellowship we have found there.

To be continued...
