Daybook
Giving thanks - that God put me right where I needed to be, and that he determines who and how I serve. I’ve been squirming a bit in my current circumstances and asking for his help in working it all out. He is faithful to keep his promise never to leave or abandon me. Even on my darkest days when I am fighting the enemy for control of my mind and mood, he is with me. I am not alone. I am never alone.
Sometimes he simply points me to a resource that will help me, and today he did just that. I am reminded that I have all I need and I am better off when I don’t isolate myself from my support system.
Outside my window - the sun is shining and the snow is slowly melting. I still don’t love winter, but I’m trying to appreciate it for what it brings to the earth; rest and rejuvenation. I look forward to spring more patiently than before I think.
Clothing myself in - stretch jeans, sleeveless mock turtleneck layered under a favorite gray sweatshirt. That will probably change during the course of the day because I have baby duty this afternoon. I’m wearing new socks that I love and Rachel’s white Crocs. I have no idea why I slipped them on that first day, but I fell in love with them immediately. I worked all day on my feet and nothing hurt - not my feet, legs, back, nothing. I’ve wanted something I could slide into when coming indoors, especially in good weather when I wear my tennis shoes outdoors to work and have to come in and out frequently. This will work. So I ordered a pair of my own.
Oh, I also ordered a winter coat just like the one she had to convince me to buy her. I borrowed it a couple weeks ago too and man is that a nice coat! I realized I haven’t actually had a winter coat for years. All of mine are basically jackets that I wear layers underneath. It’s lovely to have a daughter to preview good things before purchasing LOL.
On the homefront - I cleared off the corner shelf by the kitchen window. John installed the safety bar for mom to use to get up from the chairlift when she transfers between them. That’s it. That’s all that I managed to get done this weekend. But it made a difference. I didn’t even realize the corner counter was too busy for me. I left the collection of Harry Potter themed plants and pots there because I really liked them. But it was time to move on.
I will continue to work on the index card projects - one step at a time. I’m pretty sure I’ll be adding to the collection too though, so pretty much an ongoing list of things to do…
On the menu - Better work on that today…
A new recipe - Again, not new, but making note of what we really do enjoy. Pot roast with potatoes, carrots, and onions with two cans of Golden Cream of Mushroom soup in the crock pot/instant pot. It hit the spot and wasn’t a problem eating leftovers the day after.
Take note - this recipe for Banana Bread that my kindred spirit shared with me is the BOMB.
Writing - I resumed my #Gratitude365 series on Instagram this morning. I’d like to commit to doing it daily, but I don’t know if that’s practical or not. We’ll see.
I got notification that I was charged for the annual membership to Realm Makers. I haven’t used that resource for the entire year. I didn’t realize it was on auto renew. I don’t know that I’ll ever use it again, but I think it might be good for Christina.
I stopped my membership to Hope Writers, but discovered that the free content I can get from their website and Facebook group/pages is decent. It will work for now and if I decide at some point to rejoin I can.
Reading - I plan to start the next audiobook that Christina recommended. Seaside at the Cafe.
Also, I ordered The Heart of the Caregiver this morning after watching the trailer for the study. I think it will be a good fit for me. We’ll see.
Watching - … it is never going to end……. Vampire Diaries. Go ahead. I give you permission to judge me now. I might be judging myself. :-)
Listening - ^^^^^^
Making - helping Mom with the Bargello quilt. I might try to cut out Rachel’s double wedding ring quilt, but I need to go back and review the cutting directions because I definitely was missing something when I tried the sample last week. I did start lessons on the quilting machine. I think I’m going to like it, and it’s not as difficult as I thought it would be to learn.
I made a couple aprons, fixed up some curtains, a cover for Mandie's cushion, and a casserole cover for Christina. I'd say that's not bad for a novice maker.
The week ahead - lots of baby duty. Phone calls, shopping, working on those projects, planning a garden, and playing.
A new thing - Kindle. I’m wondering if I would do well ordering books for Kindle rather than having hard copies to store on my shelves.
Something to remember - It won’t always be like this. Not the hard, not the good, nothing but God stays the same.
