The final frontier
I feel as though this is the eve of a somewhat monumental event; tomorrow I should be able to complete the project going on in our basement. For years now I have been working toward de-cluttering years and years worth of stuff - my stuff, his stuff, their stuff, our stuff. Stuff. Everywhere stuff. Although there is a possibility that my plans don't match His plans... I fully acknowledge that I might not complete it tomorrow... that is my present goal. The thing is this - it's the last room. Granted, we simply moved it all to the garage for my dear husband to go through but it is one step closer to the curb - or the storage unit which I would bet money on being the final resting place for a few more years when it's all said and done but I'm not going there. I did actually go through every box, bag, basket, tote, corner, cabinet and drawer and sort every piece that came out of that room. It is now neatly sorted in boxes and totes for him to go through; a step I hope will help him wade through it all. And it is in the garage, out of the way. There is still a clear path to the second refrigerator, the deep freeze, the tools, the service door where the trash cans are and the door so we can unload groceries directly into the kitchen rather than through the living space. The van will not fit in the garage even without the "stuff" piled where it is - go figure. Do you ever wonder what the people who plan these houses are thinking? They definitely are NOT consulting their wives or their own conscience about the layout of a house. One day we'll build a house that fits our life, God willing. Until then, this is our home. I digress.
After this particular phase of de-cluttering is done I will consider the rest "maintenance de-cluttering". The kind that has to be on-going, consistent and persistent. I have just come to accept that there will always be a flow of stuff coming and going in our home. I am also learning that I can make decisions that help keep that flow manageable. I can embrace the work of maintaining our home better when I am not faced with Mt Neverest.
Here's hoping - cheers!
