Joy Amidst the Mess
Cliche, I know, but so very true nonetheless.
Dear Future Me,
Here are some thoughts for you to keep in mind as Christmas draws near. Today is Saturday, December 27, 2014. The house is a mess, but not as much of a mess as in the past post-Christmas days (in my opinion). I hope to include some photos so you'll see some of the mess but it won't tell the whole story, of course. There are, after all, three levels to this house and I did not go upstairs or downstairs - to the basement - to snap photos. You'll just have to use your best recall or your imagination.
The mess isn't really what I want to remind you of though. I want to take some time to remind you of the feelings you were experiencing these past few days: Joy - pure Joy, my dear. Even in the mess, you have maintained your Joy. Things did not happen as you hoped or planned - you know they never do. But you have been able to release your plans to God and ask for His Grace to keep you cheerful and so He did. Somewhere along the way on this journey you have learned that whatever plans you have, His are always better! Letting Him guide your feet (and your attitude, mood and behavior) is always going to be better. You have experienced this in all areas of your life - remember this always.
The never ending cycle of dishes continues...
Evidence that there were games played! And more planned in the next few days ahead...
It's a very small house compared to some and we are always crammed in like sardines when we all gather for special meals but we've figured out that it's worth it. Home is where your heart is and this is certainly where my heart is...
The remains of boxes, bows and gift wrap paper that need to be put away for next year. Just get-her-done, Susan.
I usually have no reason to brave the stores in the immediate days after Christmas Day but I might make an exception this year. The Blessing Bags we started several years ago seem to have become a family tradition and one that we all really enjoy and love to give. The list of friends and family we want to share them with is growing steadily so purchasing the paper and decorative supplies on sale seems to be a very good idea :-)
More to come? Maybe - the good thing about blogs is that I can add/edit any time I want!
Filled with gratitude and joy,
Susan
