Garage Mission Day and Inspiration
Today is a big day - a really, really, really BIG day :-) Well, it is if you're anything like me and have barely been able to walk through your garage for what has turned into years now.
Many things changed for me this past year; I stopped homeschooling, I changed neighborhoods (program speak for seeking out new, healthier friendships), left the last lingering volunteer jobs that I had stuck with for 10 years and found a new church home that I love. I discovered I had time on my hands and a long list of projects that had been sorely neglected for far too long. One-by-one, I started getting those things done and checking them off the list. No sooner had I checked one off then we discovered a new thing to put on the list and so I had a perpetual list of pretty important things to do with my time. I've de-cluttered and organized in a way that finally works for the way we live.
The one area that I just couldn't get to because it was too daunting a task by myself was the garage. I've buried my pride and asked for help. In the summer when it was still blistering hot I started asking family and friends if they would be willing to help if I waited until it cooled down enough. None hesitated to say yes and so the date was set and written on the calendar (and on my heart). The weather has been pretty ugly the last week or so and I nearly gave up on the possibility of getting it done and cancel the day but I chose to trust God and keep it on the schedule. Thankfully, it is a cloudy cool day but no rain and we are on!
My promise to those who agreed to come to my aid was a good home-cooked meal on Sunday. John will be smoking brisket! Yum.
And on a side note, I've been walking. Almost every morning I have completed the early morning tasks and laced up my shoes and got out on the neighborhood trail. It's been about three weeks I think and I am simply amazed at how much better I feel. My attitude is better, I have more energy and my hips aren't aching the way they have been for a long time now. I owe, in part, my favorite blogger for her words of inspiration. She's been writing about her own journey into this season of life and her newly acquired interest in walking/running. I'll welcome the big 50 at the end of this month, and I'm actually looking forward to it. Who knew?
