Graduation Party,Now She's Talking!
If you have family members, especially young adults graduating, that tell you, no, they do not want to have a graduation party - don't believe them! Mandie's graduation was on a Tuesday evening. I, being the kind of mom that I am, just couldn't imagine not having the party immediately following the ceremony but I did offer to have it later. I asked several times and the answer was still no, until yesterday when she returned from her friend's belated party :-) Now, we want a party - even more belated and that's okay with me.
My sweet mom asked why in the world we didn't send out graduation announcements. First, Mandie again said no when I asked her if she wanted to order them to send out. Second, knowing that not only would absolutely no one outside of our immediate family be allowed to attend - we couldn't even sit together as a family (mom and dad could sit closer to the graduates and the rest of the kids had to sit in the bleachers - which turned out to be much better seats...hmmm) it seemed wrong inviting folks to join us who in reality - wouldn't be allowed to. The newspaper even ran an article the following day describing how the school and police were forcing friends and family members off the campus grounds because they didn't have tickets. In hind sight, I wish I had done it anyway. I understand that they are 'announcements' not invitations but it just somehow seemed wrong at the time. Now it seems even more wrong that we didn't do it :-(
Thank heavens for second chances! I believe we'll have a new twist on our celebration. We'll send out announcements and invitations so I won't feel rotten about turning folks away (or having the police do it!).
