24
I confess, I am a 24 addict. If you can know that about me and still love me then you're a true friend!
Season seven is coming - it's around the corner.
The interesting thing about my addiction is that I actually got myself hooked, on purpose. At the time I had absolutely no idea how addicting a television series could be. I listened to my friends and extended family members talk incessantly about whatever series they were watching and I realized that I had recently suffered the grievous loss of the only television series I had ever truly worked my schedule around - West Wing. At that time there were constant previews for 24 and it piqued my interest a bit. I told John I wanted to try watching it to see if we liked it...
For the next weeks we spent hours and hours and hours watching entire seasons of 24 back to back. At first it was just so we could 'catch up' and know what the story line was. Then it was because we would suffer from wretched, painful withdrawals until we could appease our cravings for more. We held up on the sofa, screened phone calls and cooked and ate around the DVD breaks. Trips to multiple area video rentals were required to acquire the DVD full seasons. Finally, we caught up and prepared ourselves to watch the newest season with the rest of the world from one week to the next (complete with commercials). Hmmm, that wasn't as much fun -at all. We finally just stopped trying to watch it weekly and when it was available on DVD at the end of the season we watched it on a long dedicated weekend (or two).
My entire family shared in this experience. Rachel usually hung out somewhere nearby enough not to feel alone but she was close enough to catch most of the story line. This was revealed to me when Jennifer shared about the conversation she and Rachel had one day when she was giving my kids a ride somewhere. Oh, the guilt... yes, I know better!
So, that's one of my deep dark secrets. Although it's not much of a secret. Anyone who knows me very well knows about it and some even share my addiction :-) Then others have husbands who have also become 24 fans and are encouraging them to come along for the ride. But some folks can't find those darn DVDs - and some sold their's!!
