Hello! Today is:

SEE WHAT'S NEW!

My husband has been accused, and rightly so, of being a survivalist. He has always talked about a home on a piece of property out in the middle of no where and being as nearly self-sufficient as possible. He dreams of solar and wind power, geothermal heating/cooling and rain water recapture systems. Did I mention there would be a rather large greenhouse?

Well, to be a true survivalist, one really must know how to hunt. Although the man has been master of a weapon for most of his life, it was never to hunt and gather. The time has come and he is convinced that it was, perhaps, divine intervention that brought three ducks to me today from the generosity of an avid hunter. When asked if I wanted them I stunned even myself and said yes. Later, I stunned my husband and cleaned the little buggers myself without flinching much at all. He was pretty impressed, enough so he hunted down my camera to snap a couple shots. Rachel was the only one interested enough (tough enough) to stick around for the adventure.

I'm a real woman now; I've cleaned an animal for food with my own hands. Now the true test - we'll cook some of it tomorrow evening for dinner and see how it goes over ;-)

P.S. I nearly labeled this post "Honey, get yer gun" but decided that might seem a little strange. We've always planned to own guns for the time in our life when he/we would need/want them and we've decided this is the right time to take action on that. Apparently, so have a lot of other people. Have you seen the news about the increase in gun sales? Interesting

  1. Please do post when you eat those critters! I want to know how they tasted.... I hope good, especially with all that effort. I am so proud of Rachel. Please tell her I said "you go girl!"

    Love,

  2. Bravo Susan!

Although, next time you could make the kiddos do them and identify all the parts while they're at it...kill two birds with one stone. Tee Hee....I know, that was really bad *wink* but I still couldn't resist :o)

D's dad is one of those handgun purchasing numbers. It's a rather expensive political statement on his part. But it gave him something new to learn...so he seems to be enjoying having it.

Susan, Thank you so much for praying for my family this past week....we've felt the prayers.

    Hugs,
    M~
