Gone fishing
It’s fishing day for some of our vacation crew. That means they were up and out the door quite earlier than they usually are. :-)
This has become one of the favorite things about our vacation - at least for some of us. Others, such as myself, prefer to just stay back and enjoy a day of leisure, without expectations of going here, there or anywhere. You know, like actual resting. Just kidding! Although that’s what I’d love to have happen today, there are those of us who will be venturing out to hunt down Andie’s Fish Fry. It’s the best way we’ve found to prepare the fish they catch and bring home. I couldn’t find it when I went shopping at the beginning of our stay, so I’ll be forced to hunt it down, where ever it may be...
On another note, Mandie has discovered a new donut shop nearby, and she is determined to pick up a “sampling” - and by sampling I mean one of every kind 😂 I apparently need to go on the website and choose my sugar, but after listening to her list off the different flavors I think I might already know what I want... lemon meringue! Oh my deliciousness! Can you imagine donut and lemon pie combined!!? 😋 I’ll provide a review afterward if I remember.
It looks like a good day for the beach, less windy and the sky is clear already. I’m not sure any beach time will actually happen; there are only a few of us and no way I’m going to take the canopy down for sun protection on my own. And come to think of it, the chairs are in the back of the van which is parked at John’s Pass for fishing day. If there is to be a beach day, it will have to be this afternoon when they return.
This is our tenth year coming here, missing only two years in that span; the year our first granddaughter was born and the year two of our daughters got married on back-to-back weekends 😮 We’ve always stayed in the same building, but have reserved a different condo pretty much every year. We’ve stayed in the same one a couple of times I’m pretty sure, but not in consecutive years I don’t think. It really just depends which is available when I go to reserve it, and which has the best view and the fewest issues experienced in prior years.
Over the years it has evolved from my sister-in-law and her family (who were the original folks to find this spot and come every year) and my daughter as a mother’s helper, to our immediate family, to significant others (and hopefuls), to my extended family plus more of John’s extended family, and this year to our son-in-love’s family. Next year another son-in-love’s family is planning to join us. I learned the hard way last year that when this many people come together for a vacation it’s best not to make plans for the entire group to do anything together. Like seriously nothing. If it happens - great - but let-it-go! I almost drove myself crazy last year trying to make it happen, and that was such a waste of energy. I learned the lesson and now I just let everyone decide for themselves what, when and if they will be joining us in our adventures. We’ve discovered we end up passing each other in transit most of the time. Everyone gets to enjoy the adventure and no one is stressed about making everyone happy. Amen.
I went to bed early last night, and I think I feel rested. Nertz might be on the agenda for tonight 😊
Florida is a great place to visit, but I wouldn’t want to live here. I have finally landed firmly on this resolution. I’m looking forward to moving ahead on our house renovations when we return. I’m still learning things that I want to incorporate into our space. It’s a good thing!!
