I never thought of that...
I’m a big proponent of the importance of allowing ourselves to “feel” our feelings. It’s just part of acceptance that we can’t really find a way around. To grow, to heal, to move forward - we have to feel our feelings. Then we move on. It’s not easy, but it is simple.
Here’s something I never really considered deeply - as a parent, not only do we have to feel our own feelings, we have to give space and time for our kids to feel their feelings too. And that can be even harder than feeling our own. Seeing your kids heart breaking - that’s not for wimps, let me tell you. I think most moms would agree, I’d rather take all those feelings and protect my kid from the hurt that comes from so many of them. But I can’t, and I know I shouldn’t. It’s most often the circumstances that are the source of those feels that are our hard lessons to be learned and grow from.
The degree of change and growth that has happened in my life as a result of learning the valuable lessons of giving myself permission to walk through my pain and heartache is substantial. In fact, I would say it’s probably the most vital element of letting go of co-dependency.
Just thoughts from a Saturday morning - more to come, I’m sure...
