Apple Dumplings w/Secret Ingredient

A fellow homeschooler arrived with this little pan of heaven on earth at homeschool meeting years ago.  I was one of many who begged for the recipe and she happily obliged.

I thought these were an original from a certain very popular food blogger but after reading comments from other blogs I realize this is actually a very old recipe and who knows the origin?  What's more - who cares? Other than possibly to thank the individual who came up with such a delicious dish!?

They're a snap and absolutely melt-in-your-mouth delicious! They have become a family favorite.

Ingredients

  • 2 whole Granny Smith Apples
  • 2 cans (8 Oz. Cans) Crescent Rolls
  • 2 sticks Butter
  • 1-½ cup Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1 cup Mountain Dew Soda

Instructions

Peel and core apples. Cut each into 8 slices

Roll each apple slice in a crescent roll starting at the wide end

Place in a 9 x 13 lightly buttered pan (or use a non-stick spray)

Melt butter and stir in sugar and vanilla.

Pour entire mixture over apples.

Pour Mountain Dew around the edges of the pan.

Sprinkle with cinnamon and bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes.

Serve with ice cream, and spoon some of the sweet sauces from the pan over the top.

WARNING: Prepare this dish at your own risk. It is beyond imaginable.
