Music that touches the heart and stirs the soul

As I continue to learn how to use this blogging tool I realize how much I love music. I have spent much time trying to get a playlist added; it is a work in progress. I have to wonder why I spent so much time working on having some of my favorite music be part of my blog. It didn't really take long for me to figure it out. Music is just an extension of the expression I have in my writing. I enjoy listening to so many different types of music. There are a few that I just can't tolerate, of course. I have been lucky that I have been able to tolerate most of what my kids choose to listen to. I have been very lucky, blessed actually, that the three youngest that are homeschooled love to listen to the same music I do. It warms my heart when we are in the car and we all love to turn up the radio and sing along to the same music. They have interest in the same wide range and variety of music that I do. What I especially like and am thankful for is the fact that they have learned to discern the message in the song. I recently subscribed to Top Music Countdown by Cornerstone Media. I heard the woman who founded it talk at a catholic conference last year and I really liked what she had to say. It took me a year to decide to subscribe and I'm glad I did. It was comforting to discover that other like-minded folks do listen to the same music I do even though it might not be specifically labeled Christian. It's all in the message and music definitely sends a message. It's our job as listeners to decide if it's a message worth listening to.

I hope as time goes by and I get my playlist up that anyone who might be browsing my blog will listen to the songs I have chosen. Although very different they all have the same basic message; that God loves us and his mercy is unending and life and love are gifts that should be cherished and never, ever taken for granted.
